John Hanning Speke
Viajó en 1857 con Richard Francis Burton en busca de las fuentes del Nilo, señalando al lago Victoria como origen. Unos años despúes regresó para demostrar que sus calculos eran correctos, debido a una polémica con Burton. Murió en 1864 por un accidente de caza.
